The defacing of walls of Delhi University during the recent students’ union elections has come to the National Green Tribunal (NGT), which on Friday (September 22) warned the election commissioner who oversaw the election to be present on the next date or will be slapped with a fine.
The case, taken to the NGT principal bench headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar, complains about the degradation of the university’s environment by creating litter and defacing the walls during the elections.
On Friday, the counsel for the applicant submitted that even after so many warnings and the previous orders of the tribunal, all the walls have been painted and flooded with posters and paint.
The bench observed that nobody was present on behalf of Delhi University, so the bench directed to issue a notice for the presence of the election commissioner of the Delhi University elections and warned that if he is not present in person then cost will be imposed on him as environmental compensation.
The next date of hearing is October 12.
