Delhi Violence: Besides SC, High Court to also hear plea seeking FIRs against instigators

The Delhi High Court will hear a plea on Wednesday seeking FIRs and compensation for victims killed in violence that unfolded in Northeast Delhi over CAA on Monday. Seven persons, including a Delhi police constable, were killed in violence that broke out in areas like Jaffrabad, Maujpur, Gokulpuri etc.

Human Rights Law Network (HRLN), an NGO, has filed the petition seeking an independent judicial inquiry into the clashes in Maujpur, Jafrabad and adjoining areas.

The petition demands compensation for the deceased and arrest of political personalities who have been involved in hate speech and inciting public for violence.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has agreed to hear on Wednesday an application seeking directions to the Delhi Police to register FIRs based on complaints filed pertaining to the violence.

The application filed by Wajahat Habibullah, Chandra Shekhar Azad and Bahadul Abbas Naqvi has prayed that adequate protection should be granted to the peaceful women protesters in Shaheen Bagh in view of the violence in various parts of Delhi.

A Delhi Police head constable along with six civilians were killed yesterday after clashes erupted between anti-CAA protesters and those supporting the citizenship law in Delhi’s Gokulpuri. The police have imposed Section 144 at 10 locations in the area for one month.
