DU plea to keep the same number of law seats

In the Bar Council of India’s (BCI) earlier evaluation of Delhi University’s law programme, there seemed some inadequacies, because of which it was suggested that the university reduce the number of seats from its current 2,310 to 1,440 for its 2017-18 LLB programme.

The university appealed to the Delhi High Court and the bench of Justices

S Muralidhar and C Hari Shankar had instructed the BCI to make another inquiry (the university had said it had upgraded facilities) and report back on June 12.

Today, the counsel of BCI said they have inspected the law faculty of the university and have come up with the report in a sealed cover. He said the BCI will present the said report to the legal education committee for consideration in its meeting on June 17, 18 and 19.

The bench directed BCI to decide on the representation by the university and communicate its decision by June 24. Matter adjourned to June 27.
