Elevation of 3 judicial officers, 5 advocates proposed for Madras High Court Judges: Supreme Court Collegium

The proposal to elevate three judicial officers and five advocates as judges of the Madras High Court, has been approved by the Supreme Court Collegium after the meeting was held earlier this week.

As per Collegium statements issued, the proposed names for appointment in Madras High Court Judges.

Judicial Officers

1.       Periyasamy Vadamalai

2.       Ramachandran Kalaimathi

3.       Govindarajan Thilakavadi

Advocates

1.       Venkatachari Lakshminarayanan,

2.       Lekshmana Chandra Victoria Gowri

3.       Pillaipakkam Bahukutumbi Balaji,

4.       Ramaswamy Neelakandan,

5.       Kandhasami Kulandaivelu Ramakrishnan

In the collegium meeting held on January 17, 2023, the decision was taken.

At present, the number of judges in the Madras High Court presently is 52 Judges. If the above recommendations is accepted by the Central government, the working strength would become 60, although it is important to note that the sanctioned strength for Madras Court is 75 Judges.
