Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court and eminent constitutional jurist Fali S Nariman passed away on Wednesday. The 95-year-old breathed his last in New Delhi.
Nariman enrolled as an Advocate of the Bombay High Court in November 1950, and was designated Senior Advocate in 1961.
He practised law for more than 70 years, initially in the High Court of Bombay and since 1972, in New Delhi in the Supreme Court of India.
He was appointed Additional Solicitor General of India in May 1972, when he moved from Bombay to Delhi.
Talking about the loss, the SG said that not only the legal fraternity but the nation has lost a towering figure of intellect and wisdom.
The SG said that the country has lost an epitome of what righteousness stood for. He stated how a doyenne, paragon and a legend in his own lifetime left the jurisprudence enriched by his immense contribution.
Remembering the old times, the SG mentioned how Nariman always made him learn something new by merely appearing even against him.
SG remembered the loving gesture of sending all the books written to him with his autographs that will now remain a proud possession for him and even for his next generations.
The legal fraternity is intellectually poorer today. Such intellectual giants do not die. They remain immortal through their contribution. There cannot be and will not be another Fali Nariman.
