Failure to provide food security for vulnerable sections in State, Karnataka High Court holds special sitting.

High court of Karnataka holds a special sitting today after certain parties have sent letters to the Hon’ble Chief Justice and Executive Chairman of the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KLSLA) to address the serious concern of failure in providing food security to the vulnerable section of the State.

The court directed to consider the grievances expressed in these letters as a part of the writ petition filed by “Md. Arif Jameel” against “Union of India” for the prevention of spreading COVID-19 infection in the state.  The President of People’s Union for Civil Liberties, Karnataka have sent letter to the court and also some letters were also received by the Executive Chairman of the KLSLA to draw attention on lack of food security to daily wage workers, migrant workers and homeless persons during the present period lockdown in the country.

Thereafter, court further directed to list the aforesaid matters on 30.03.2020 at 11 am and the hearing will be made through video conferencing for which guidelines have been published on the website of the court. The members of Bar and parties will attend the same through video conferencing. Furthermore, it has made into the notice of the stated government that if the occasions arises this court will also consider the issue of implementation of the directions issued by the Hon’ble Apex Court for taking measures to reduce over- crowding in prisons in the state of Karnataka.
