An impleadment application has been filed by the Bharatiya Kisan Union Bhanu through its president Bhanu Pratap Singh seeking impleadment in DMK Rajya Sabha MP Tiruchi Siva’s plea challenging the three Farmers Acts.
The applicant has submitted that though he had sent a representation to the Union, however neither any reply has been served nor any effective step or action has been taken over the farmers agitation till date.
The applicant has further submitted, “These Acts are illegal and arbitrary, because these Acts would pave way for cartelization and commercialization of agriculture produces and if allowed to stand, we are going to completely ruin… our corporates can….export agriculture produce without any regulation, and may even result in famines.”
Further, it contended that the three Farmers Act are “unconstitutional, anti farmer as per these laws farmers position is vulnerable to corporate greed of multinational companies. That these laws would dismantle the Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) system intended to insure fair prices for farm products.”
The applicant has further submitted that these laws were passed hastily without having an adequate discussion and the implementation of the same in its current form will “spell disaster for the farming community by opening a parallel market which is unregulated and gives enough place for exploitation of the Indian Farmers”.
Moreover, the impugned legislation corporatize agriculture and usher in unregulated and exploitative regime because Indian farmers are mostly illiterate and don’t have the best bargaining skills.
Hence, the applicant has suggested that strengthening the existing APMC system by infusing more capital and effective management of the minimum support price is the need of the hour for the welfare and improvement of the condition of lndian farmers. Without APMC protecting the farmers, the market would fall to the corporate greed of multinational companies, said the applicant.

Further, the applicant has sought the formation of a Farmers Commission with farmers as members including its president. This Commission will decide the price of the crops, the applicant said.
