New Delhi (ILNS): The national flag was at half-mast today atop Rashtrapati Bhavan in honour of the death yesterday of Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party leader Ram Vilas Paswan. Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi went to the late minister’s house and paid his last respects to one of the tallest political leaders to have emerged from Bihar.
Paswan, a respected Dalit leader, was suffering from several ailments for a while. He died of a heart attack. He was 74.
Among others paying their respects to Paswan, one who had close links to all across party lines, was President Ram Nath Kovind and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The latter also visited the late leader’s residence.
The passing away of such a tall Bihar leader will be felt during the Bihar elections, scheduled to be held from October 28.
Paswan belonged to a Scheduled Caste community from Hajipur in Bihar and was a legislator for over five 5 decades.
