Gujarat man accused of impersonating as PMO official in Jammu & Kashmir remanded to judicial custody for 15 days

A man from Gujarat who impersonated himself as an official of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has been remanded to judicial custody for 15 days by a Srinagar court.

The 1st Additional Munsiff, Srinagar passed the order after a hearing was held through video conference.

The accused named Kiran Patel was was arrested from a five-star hotel for posing as an additional secretary with the Government of India.

A senior police official told media about fake visiting cards and two mobiles which were seized from the accused.

He has been booked for offences under Sections 419 (Punishment for cheating), 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (Forgery of valuable security, will etc), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating), and 471 (Using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

As per the known sources, Patel travelled to many tourist places on ‘Z plus’ security during his visit and stayed in Kashmir. He even visited a place close to the Line of Control (LOC) in Kashmir’s Uri in Baramullah district.

Patel has also filed an application for seeking bail which is pending before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar.
