A petition for identifying illegal immigrants has come up before the Supreme Court bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud. The petition has been filed by Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay.
On Wednesday the counsel for the applicant submitted before the bench that some system of identifying illegal immigrants and then segregating them (for deportation) was needed.
The applicant also said that any person living for 181 days in India must be entitled to the identity card that would be issued for such immigrants.
The bench set the next date of hearing for March 7.
