The entire country will go into lockdown mode from midnight tonight, “to save India, there will be a total ban on venturing out of your home,” the Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday night in the his second address to the nation in less than a week. While last Thursday he exhorted Indians to stay at home on Janta Curfew day, todays address was about “vital aspects” related to the menace of Coronavirus. The lockdown will be for a period of 21 days.
Urging people to stay at home the PM said that, “it was the only way to break the chain of transmission”. He stressed on the fact that experts pointed to the importance of social distancing to combat COVID-19. The PM said that there was a misconception that social distancing was only for people who were afflicted with the virus, “It is for every citizen, every family and every family member, it is for the prime minister also.”
