Intervention application in Delhi riots case seeks FIR against The Wire

An intervention application has been filed in Delhi High Court in the matter of Rahul Roy, in which medical and humanitarian intervention was sought for displaced victims of Delhi Riots. The application has sought registration of an FIR against news portal “The Wire” for allegedly reporting that the relief granted by the Delhi High Court via the order passed on 26th February 2020 was regarding victims of a particular religion.

The intervention application has been filed by Satyam Singh an advocate practicing in Delhi. The application stated, “misrepresentation of judicial orders and judgements cause a deep and sullying effect on the respect, integrity and authority of Judiciary within the citizens. It further has a damaging effect on the trust and faith that the Constitution and its drafters have bestowed on the judicial institution

The application mentioned that the Government of India took note of the seriousness and gravity of the situation and through the I&B Ministry issued an advisory to all satellite TV channels to refrain from broadcasting any content which may contain “anything defamatory, deliberate, false and suggestive innuendos and half-truths

It was also mentioned that “The Wire” is also involved in a criminal defamation case filed against them for voluntarily misreporting the financial information regarding an Indian citizen.

The matter is to be taken up before the bench of Chief Justice D. N. Patel today.
