The letter petition has been filed by lawyer Amritpal Singh Khalsa who has urged the supreme court to exercise it’s “epistolary jurisdiction” by constituting a committee headed by a sitting judge of the apex court, for an impartial probe into the riots.
The investigation by the Delhi Police investigation seems partial and communal said the lawyer. He also added that the police is directly shielding prepertrators of the riots.”
The letter mentions the role of Delhi Police in 2020 riots have not only belittled the police service , but has broken the trust that people had on them.
“This court admonished Delhi Police in their failure to stop riots in 2020,” the plea said.
Now that the riots have marred the peace of capital city for the second time, what remains common in both occasions is that only “minority” community members are being blamed.
The letter petition is based on media reports that allege few armed members, who were part of the Hanuman Jayanti Shobha Yatra procession entering mosque and installed saffron flag, and what followed was stone pelting by both the communities.”
7 to 8 Delhi Police Personnel’s and civilians have been severely injured and damage to private property was fait acompli.
The riots are a communal scar and what makes the matter worst is that it is blamed on one side only.Delhi Police, initially arrested 7 youths all of them being Muslim’s,” it was submitted.
