Supreme Court appoints Justice Aniruddha Bose as Director of National Judicial Academy, Bhopal

The Supreme Court recently appointed Justice Aniruddha Bose as the Director of The National Judicial Academy (NJAC), Bhopal. Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud announced the decision of the appointment during the ceremonial bench organised honoring the retiring justice.

Justice Aniruddha Bose, who is demitting office on April 10, will now be heading the NJAC, Bhopal. During the ceremonial bench proceedings to bid farewell to Justice Bose, CJI DY Chandrachud said that Justice Bose would make the perfect fit for the position of Director , NJAC considering his strong desire to ensure justice is meted out to the last man standing in the hope of relief.

The Chief Justice expressed that Justice Bose is extraordinarily equitable, gentle to the core, compassionate and has an unending source of desire to do justice to the last person in the line. He added that for a long time, the fraternity wanted an eminently suitable person for heading the National Judicial Academy in Bhopal and the unanimous vote of the judges was that there could be no better person to fill the role than our academician-jurist Justice Anirudha Bose. 

The Chief Justice mentioned that Justice Bose has graciously accepted the onerous responsibility of training not just the judges of the High Court but also engaging with the judges of the Supreme Court and the district judiciary, because this is our policy think-tank at Bhopal.

CJI DY Chandrachud also appreciated Justice Bose’s ability to manage his personal difficulties along with his professional commitment towards the Court. Speaking on his eclectic taste in arts, be it poetry, music, literature or dressing, the CJI considered Justice Bose as the Bengali Bhadralok.

Justice Aniruddha Bose in his farewell address expressed how learning for him did not stop even as a Supreme Court Justice. He expressed that he was grateful for the assistance rendered by the bar in deciding cases, as he opined that only a diversity of viewpoints can enhance the quality of decision-making of a judge. 

Justice Aniruddha Bose was elevated to the Supreme Court on May 24, 2019. Before the elevation, he served as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court.
