Supreme Court judge, Justice Ravindra Bhat, on Friday termed the legal profession as a vibrant profession, and advised members of the fraternity to remain fearless, true to themselves and constantly seek excellence.
Attending the event organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) to mark his retirement, Justice Bhat advised the lawyers to uphold the values of independence, the importance of the rule of law, along with the professionalism needed to face many fold challenges of the times and the future.
Expressing his ‘deep gratitude’ for the privilege, Justice Bhat said he was one of the luckiest persons on earth to have ended his career as a member of Bench of the highest court of the country.
Revealing that present Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Hrishikesh Roy were his classmates from the same batch at Law Faculty, DU, Justice Bhat said he shared a unique bond with them.
He further said that he had the rare honour of serving on the same bench as Justice Viswanathan, who was his former colleague from the chamber of Vaidyanathan.
Speaking about his early career and the lessons he learnt from Senior Advocates- KM Bhatt and Vaidyanathan, Justice Bhat said that practical solutions were often more critical than mere knowledge.
