Justice Bhushan Pradyumna Dharmadhikari, presently the second senior-most judge of the Bombay High Court, has been appointed as its acting Chief Justice on Monday.
The appointment comes in the view of Chief Justice Pradeep Nandrajog’s retirement who reached superannuation today.
The senior-most judge after Justice Nandrajog, and BP Dharmadhikari’s cousin, Justice Satyaranjan Dharmadhikari, had recently resigned citing personal reasons.
Justice SC Dharmadhikari had said he had been elevated as the Chief Justice of the High Court of another state, but he “has some personal responsibilities here in Mumbai, which is why I did not want to be transferred out of Maharashtra”.
It is not yet clear whether his resignation has been accepted or not.
Satyaranjan’s father, Justice Chandrashekhar Dharmadhikari, was the acting Chief Justice of Bombay High Court.
Chandrashekhar Dharmadhikari’s brother Pradyumna Dharmadhikari, too, was in the legal profession. Justice BP Dharmadhikari is Pradyumna’s son.
