The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of Justice Robin Phukan, additional judge of the Gauhati High Court, as a permanent judge of the same High Court.
As per a resolution passed by the Collegium on Tuesday, the recommendation to make Justice Phukan a permanent judge of the Gauhati High Court was made by Justice Soumitra Saikia, Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, along with two other senior most judges, on March 23.
The Collegium said it received the file from the Department of Justice in April. Chief Ministers of Assam, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh, along with the Governors of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh have concurred with the recommendation, it added.
The resolution mentioned the report of the Collegium’s Judgment Evaluation Committee, stating that the verdicts of the judge in question were well-articulated and well-structured, had issues answered with reasoning, duly considered all case laws and material, followed the appreciation of circumstantial evidence and sentencing, besides being clear, lucid and having clarity.
The Collegium said considering all these inputs, it recommended the appointment of Justice Phukan as permanent judge of the Gauhati High Court.
