Kapil Sibal, who was formerly associated with Congress as an MP, has now filed his nomination in the presence of Samajwadi Party chief Akhikesh Yadav.
Akhilesh welcomed Sibal in Lucknow, from where the two went for filing the papers.
The term of Sibal with Rajya Sabha is due to be over on July 4 and taking this into account, he decided to file his papers for nomination. Eleven Rajya Sabha seats are due for polls on June 10.
The reason that SP has thought of shaking hands with Sibal can very well be understood by the fact that Sibal has been representing senior SP leader Azam Khan during his multiple bail hearings in the Supreme Court.
Akhilesh Yadav told a leading news agency, “Kapil Sibal is a senior lawyer. He has presented his opinions well in Parliament. We hope he’ll present the opinions of both SP as well as himself.”
