Kerala HC Orders for Interim bail to Under-Trial Prisoners till April 30

In continuation to other High Courts, Kerala High Court today has also granted interim bail to all the under trial inmates facing accusation of having committed offences punishable upto 7 years or less, till 30th April to curb with the problem of congestion in the jails that may second the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

The step has been taken after the order of the apex court to deal with the health crisis arising out of Corona Virus (COVID-19) with regard to the Prisons and Remand Homes.

Kerala HC has directed that all the prisoners will report to the nearest police station as soon as they have been granted bail, further stay at home and strictly follow the guidelines.

The court said that Those who have been convicted of imprisonment for less than seven years will get bail. Prison Superintendents will release the prisoners who are eligible. But regular offenders are not entitled to get bail.”
