Kerala MP Petitions SC Against Karnataka

Kasargode MP Rajmohan Unnithan has moved the Supreme Court seeking direction to Karnataka Government to open its borders with Kerala to allow movement of ambulances, trucks and other vehicles carrying essential and non-essential items.

The Karnataka government closed its road borders along the state of Kerala amid the lockdown, caused due to the pandemic coronavirus, which has affected the supply of essential goods and movement of ambulance between the two states.

It has been stated in the petition that the people of Kasargode regularly go to the city of Mangaluru for medical check ups and that the closing of borders is against the orders of the Central Government, to keep the borders open and permit the supply of inter-state goods and services. The plea states that the road block is unconstitutional as it has resulted in violation of the Fundamental Rights of the people.

Earlier the Chief Minister of Kerala had brought this to the notice of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and had sought his intervention but, the Karnataka Government stood firm on its decision citing the risk of coronavirus.
