The IT department has moved in quickly regarding “benami” property, attaching 12 plots belonging to family members of the former Bihar chief minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav.

On June 20, the IT department took control of 12 plots, belonging to Lalu’s daughter Misa Bharti, her husband Shailesh, and sisters Ragini and Chanda. Also plots belonging to Lalu’s son Tejashwi Yadav and Lalu’s wife Rabri Devi were attached.

In doing so, the department also slapped charges under the Benami Transactions Act, 1988 against all, according to reports.

This is part of the department’s move against benami properties in a drive in which it had provisionally attached Rs 1,000 crore worth of benami lands.
