New Delhi: Law student Mukul Sharma, who had filed a PIL before the Delhi High Court, challenging salary deductions to teachers and other staff of some private schools in the NCT of Delhi amid the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, has withdrawn his petition, promising the court that he would return with the teachers. The court allowed the petition to be withdrawn.
A two judge bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Rajnish Bhatnagar said that there was no doubt in allowing this petition in any manner, but the question was why the petitioner was pretending to be the ‘saviour’ of these teachers.
The petition had sought the release of full salary to the teachers and to clear all arrears within two working days.
Sharma submitted before the court: “The teachers concerned have already protested and requested in their own schools regarding the release of their salary, but they are in fear of losing their jobs in case they approach any competent court.”
The bench stated: “If any teacher comes with you in this case we will surely issue a notice to the respondents, (but) why are you becoming the savior?”
While talking to India Legal, Sharma said: “I’ll be filing a new petition and come along with the teachers concerned shortly.”
