Liquor policy scam case: CBI summons Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal for questioning on April 16

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday directed Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal to appear before it on April 16, in connection with irregularities in the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had opposed the bail application of former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and AAP leader Manish Sisodia in a similar case.

The Counsel appearing for ED apprised Special Judge M.K. Nagpal of the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi that Sisodia, who was arrested in a money laundering case related to the Excise Policy, had planted fabricated e-mails to show that there was a public approval for the policy.

The lawyer further said that the e-mails planted by Sisodia were received not only in the official e-mail account of the Excise Department, but even in his personal mail account. The content of the e-mails was given by Sisodia, which suited his agenda, he added.

Earlier on April 6, the Delhi High Court had issued notice to CBI on the bail petition of senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia, who was arrested by CBI on February 26 under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma denied bail to Sisodia on the grounds that the former Excise Minister played the most important and vital role in the criminal conspiracy related to the liquor policy case.

Sisodia had moved the High Court against the trial court order, which refused to grant him bail on March 31.

Sisodia has remained behind bars since February 26, when he was arrested by the CBI. He was subsequently arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 9 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
