Madhya Pradesh HC denies bail to cow slaughter accused

Justice Mohammed Fahim Anwar of the Madhya Pradesh High Court has dismissed the bail application of a man arrested in connection with cow slaughter under MP Gowanse Vadh Pratished Adhiniyam and MP Agricultural Cattle Preservation Act. The Court said the charge is very serious. In such cases, giving the benefit of bail will adversely affect the society, the Judge said.

During the hearing of the case, advocate Manish Meshram appeared on behalf of the applicant Zaheer Siddiqui, a resident of Seoni, Advocate D.P. Patel opposed the application on behalf of the state government.

Advocate Manish Meshram argued that officers of Dunda, a police station in Seoni district, arrested Hamid alias Jagga before the arrest of the petitioner. He was loading cows into vehicles and carrying cattle for agricultural work. A sharp razor was recovered from his possession. On searching properly, chopped pieces of cattle were found. This shows that cows have been harmed. Jagga confessed to his crime and took the name of applicant Zaheer Siddiqui, after which Zaheer was also arrested.

Advocate for the applicant further argued that since the applicant is in judicial custody from August 10, 2020, so the benefit of bail should be given.

The High Court rejected the bail application after considering the whole matter. The court clarified crime registered under sections of MP Gowanse Vadh Pratished Adhiniyam and MP Agricultural Cattle Preservation Act is serious in nature. .
