Maud Mandi blast: Plea says SIT not doing its job, Punjab & Haryana High Court asks govt for status report

New Delhi (ILNS): After allegations of improper investigations were levelled against the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Maud Mandi blast case, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today asked for the status report from the government.

Gurjit Singh Patra, a resident of Patha, had filed a petition in the court. He alleged that the SIT was not investigating the case as per the order of the court, seeking action under contempt against several police officers, including the DGP of Punjab.

The petitioner had alleged that the SIT was formed to investigate the case. The SIT did not conduct a proper investigation in the case despite orders from the high court.

In the year 2017, during the campaigning for the Punjab assembly elections, there was a blast in Maud Mandi. The main accused in the case have not been arrested yet. They are Gurtej Singh, Avtar Singh and Amrik Singh.

According to the petitioner, all the accused are associated with the Dera Sacha Sauda. Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim is currently lodged in the Sunaria Jail in Rohtak in the sexual exploitation and rape case. The petitioner claimed that Ram Rahim is not being questioned by the SIT.

The petitioner also added that the inquiry was started by constituting an SIT on the orders of the high court, but due to no concrete action by the SIT, the high court last year ordered the government to constitute a fresh SIT for investigation.

The petitioner also questioned the invoice submitted by SIT as the challan presented in the court is incomplete.
