The Supreme Court today directed the Mullaperiyar Dam Supervisory Committee to keep doing its operations till the National Dam Safety Authority as envisaged by the Dam Safety Act, 2021, comes into effect.
The Court said the Supervisory Committee is doing remarkable work .It also expanded the Committee with adding another one technical member each from Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It would two weeks to see this expansion complete….
Supreme Court pronounce its order on Supervisory Committee in a plea pertaining to alleged “inaction” of Court-appointed Supervisory committee regarding safety of the Mullaperiyar Dam.
Order: Chief Secretary of every State will be responsible and make suggestion to advisory committee for the safety of the Dam.
We express a hope that the competent authority will work towards the safety and this is only a temporary arrangement.
Order: The Supervisory Committee can also entertain the application and suggestions of the Locals for the safety of the dam and address it in a time bound manner.
Order: Both the party states are expected to extend whatever possible assistance required whereas, the Supervisory Committee will still do its job.
