The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has moved the Supreme Court against the Calcutta High Court’s order that allowed the house arrest of four TMC leaders in the Narada sting case and sought an adjournment of hearing at the Calcutta High Court, scheduled for today.
The CBI has also moved the top court against the Calcutta HC’s direction that the matter be heard by a larger bench of the same court after two judges of the previous bench were unable to agree on a matter.
The larger bench of the Calcutta HC was expected to hear on the stay on bail, transfer of cases from the special court to High Court, and on circumstances that led to the stay on the bail. The CBI has informed the High Court that it has filed a special leave petition in the apex court, which has been provisionally numbered.
On Friday the high court put the four politicians under house arrest and constituted a larger bench to hear the bail plea after a difference of opinion split the two-judge bench on granting them an interim bail in a corruption case.
Those arrested are ministers Firhad Hakim and Subrata Mukherjee, MLA Madan Mitra, and Sovan Chatterjee, who quit the Trinamool to join the BJP before leaving that party too in March.

The high court had on May 17 night stayed the lower court’s decision to grant bail to the four leaders.
