Government to submit new drafts of IPC, CrPC soon in Parliament: Union Home Minister Amit Shah

The Union Home Minister Amit Shah on on Thursday said that he is currently examining the various suggestions which were received for improvements to the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and will soon come up with new drafts of both statutes in the parliament.

The Home Minister told media that he has taken a lot of time to go through the exercise of looking into the same.

Amit Shah said that they have recieved Various suggestions in regards to the improvement in CrPC and IPC, and after due exercise, a new draft shall be presented.

The Home Minister said the same while he was speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day Chintan Shivir of all State home ministers organised at Surajkund in Haryana.

In his address, the Union Home Minister also told that the Government plans National Investigation Agency (NIA) to be set in every State of the country.

In May 2020 a 5-member committee was constituted by the Home Ministry to recommend criminal law reforms for India. The Committee is chaired by Vice Chancellor of the National Law University, Delhi, Prof (Dr) Ranbir Singh.

When the Committee was formed.It drew flake from lawyers, former judges and academicians and alike who had expressed concerns over its lack of diversity and transparency.

The Committee however said that it respects all opinions and suggestions made to it, and would upload all relevant updates on its website in the interest of transparency.
