The Delhi High Court on Thursday (September 21) refused the request of BJP leader Subramanian Swamy that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) be made a party to the Sunanda Pushkar death case. Delhi police is already probing the case. The High Court observed that the Delhi Police is looking into all aspects of the case, and the ED’s presence at this stage would delay the probe even further.
Additional solicitor general Sanjay Jain appearing for Delhi Police sought more time to use forensic psychology, a new mode of probe on the suspects. He expressed confidence that the tool will cover all areas of the probe. The Police also said that it would be able to file the probe report only after eight weeks.
While adjourning the matter for October 26, the High Court hoped that Delhi Police will come out with something concrete in the next hearing and not plead for more time. It asked the police to file an affidavit in two weeks mentioning the actual time it would take to finish the probe.
Swamy has filed a PIL in the High Court seeking a time-bound court-monitored multi-disciplinary probe into the death of Sunanda Pushkar, the wife of Congress leader Shashi Tharoor. The bench of Justices GS Sistani and Chander Shekhar is hearing this case.
