Fairoz Khan, the national president of National Student Union of India (NSUI) has stepped down from his post following charges of sexual harassment and party president Rahul Gandhi has accepted his resignation.
Khan is said to have submitted his resignation on Monday. In early June, a woman party member from Chattisgarh had first raised the charges against Khan and the party had set up a three member committee to look into these after she personally met Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders and submitted a memorandum. In that, she said the NSUI chief had sexually harassed her and other female members of party.
The Congress is unrelenting in demanding that the BJP take action against Union minister MJ Akbar, who has been accused by more than 10 women of sexual harassment when he worked at various media organisations. Rahul Gandhi has been attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for staying mum on the allegations levelled against Akbar.
