A petition seeking termination of pregnancy in the 23rd week was received by the Supreme Court vacation bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Sanjay Kishan Kaul on Wednesday (June 21). The reason cited was some deformity found in the foetus.
The petition was from Sarmishtha Chakraborty of West Bengal.
The court issued notice which the Union government accepted. Notice will be served to the state of West Bengal.
