Hearing a petition by activist Tehseen S Poonawalla against self-styled gau rakshaks and related violence, the Supreme Court bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud found on Friday (September 22) that only five states had filed compliance affidavits.
At the last hearing, the court had sent notice to all the states to file compliance affidavits on the action taken in this regard.
The states that have filed compliance affidavits are Karnataka, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Maharashtra submitted that they will file by Friday itself.
The court ordered all other states to file their affidavits by October 13, the next date of hearing.
