Controversy over security lapses surrounding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab reached the Supreme Court on Thursday.
Plea seeking probe in PM Modi’s security breach will be heard on Friday.
Considering the present situation in Punjab, the highest standards of security arrangements was imperative for Prime Minister. As per protocol, a car for the chief secretary or DGP is mandated to join PM’s motorcade. However, neither Chief Secretary nor DGP or their representative joined PM’s motorcade, the petition said.
In his petition, Senior advocate Maninder Singh seeks a thorough probe into the security breach in PM Modi’s convoy at Bathinda in Punjab.
The petitioner also seeks direction to Bathinda District Judge to take possession of all evidence relating to the police bandobast for Prime Minister’s visit.
A Supreme Court bench of Chief Justice N V Ramana, Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli asked Singh to serve a copy of the petition on Punjab government and scheduled it for hearing on Friday.
Punjab government has formed a probe panel to investigate lapses during PM Modi’s visit to Ferozepur on Wednesday.
The panel would comprise Justice (Retd.) Mehtab Singh Gill, Principal Secretary (Home Affairs) and Justice Anurag Verma. The panel would submit its report within 3 days
