Police slaps sedition charge against journalist, 3 CFI members arrested during their Hathras trip

New Delhi (ILNS): Politics and controversy around the Hathras tragedy takes new turns with each passing day. In a latest development, Hathras police have now framed sedition charges against the journalist from Kerala they had arrested earlier. Similar charges were also framed against three members of the Campus Front of India (CFI).

All were arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act while they were on way to meet the Hathras victim’s family.

Journalist Siddique Kappan (from Kerala) was going to Hathras on Monday to cover the situation following the Hathras tragedy, which has created an uproar across the country. The other three named as Atiq-ur Rehman, Masood Ahmed and Alam are identified as members of the CFI, which is the students’ wing of the Popular Front of India.

On October 5, the four men were detained by Mathura police at Maant toll plaza. Next day, they were booked for allegedly being part of a bigger conspiracy behind their visit to Hathras.
