The election for the new President of India will be held on July 17. This announcement was made on June 7 by the Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi. The counting will be on July 20.
The term of Pranab Mukherjee, the current and 13th President of India, ends on July 24.
At a press conference in Delhi, Zaidi said that the voting will involve members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and members of all the Legislative Assemblies of states and union territories.
He said that while MPs will vote in Parliament, MLAs will vote in their respective state capitals. Only in the case of an emergency, and with a ten-day notice, can an MLA vote at the Parliament in Delhi.
