2228

Renowned law scholar and writer Upendra Baxi said that the Citizenship Amendment Act violates Article 14, by making a classification which grants citizenship rights to only people of certain religious faiths.

He said that the Act offends Article 14, which ensures equality before law, by excluding persecuted minorities of a particular religion.

However, he added that if Parliament makes an Act and the Supreme Court agrees to it, we are all bound by it.
