The Supreme Court on Monday (Aug 14) praised the efforts by the Maharashtra government and the Haji Ali Dargah Trust to remove encroachments around the Haji Ali Dargah, in south Mumbai.
In its last order, the apex court had sought a status report from the state government on the matter and gave a deadline of two weeks.
The Court on Monday also asked all the concerned authorities to get cracking on evolving a beautification plan for the entire area. It also asked the state government to take a call on the Kinara Mosque near the shrine, whether to demolish it or not. The state government was asked to inform its decision before the next date of hearing on October 4.
