The Supreme Court bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan and Deepak Gupta on June 9 extended the last date of counselling and admission for medical students to June 15.

The bench was hearing a petition by Ashish Ranjan, asking the court to monitor the timeframe for conducting the counselling and admission process of medical courses. The court has been reviewing the timeframe in view of various hurdles faced by colleges and the MCI in filling up the seats on time.

The bench also considered the case of Madhya Pradesh, but said: “As far as Madhya Pradesh is concerned, the petition is unfounded hence their applications are rejected.
