The trial in the murder case of Shraddha Walkar began today at Delhi’s Saket Court with Aftab Poonawala standing as the accused.

Aftab is charged of killing his 27-year-old live-in girlfriend, Shraddha Walkar, and cutting her into 35 pieces to dispose of the body.

The accused is alleged to have not only cut the girl but also preserved the chopped body parts in a refrigerator before dumping them in the forests of Chhatarpur.

A complaint was earlier filed by Shraddha Walkar about the threat by Aaftab to cut her into pieces and throw them away.

Shraddha Walker had filed the police complaint against Aftab Poonawala in November 2020 at Tulinj police station in Maharashtra’s Palghar district.

A letter in this connection was shown by the neighbour of Shraddha, who had gone to the police station escorting her.

The process of recording statements from prosecution witnesses in the case has now begun.

Delhi’s Saket court in April had issued an order in response to a plea  that was filed by the Delhi Police against a some channels.

The plea has requested to restrain these channels from sharing the content of the charge sheet, including digital evidence, in the Shraddha murder case.

Vikas Walker, the father of Shraddha Walker had also expressed his doubts on the involvement of the parents of Aftab  parents in the case, claiming that they have been deliberately concealed or kept away from scrutiny.

The father of the victim had said that death penalty should be given to the accused as he is guilty and had committed this crime with full planning.

It was also added that there are loopholes in the investigation and proceedings due to which the case is delayed.

Infact the father of Shraddha Walkar  he has asked his lawyer to appeal for fast-track proceeding in the case.

The Special public prosecutor (SPP) Amit Prasad informed that the Delhi Police had earlier approached the court on credible information that one of the media houses has accessed the audio-video evidence related to the Narco test and the Practo app.

While the proceedings of the trial of Aftab Poonawala,in the Saket Court was taken place,, the prosecution recorded the statement of witness auto driver Manish Kumar Rathore in the court who took Shraddha on 18 May 2022 in his auto from metro station to Chhatarpur hill.

Another statement that made important additions to the case was that of Kusum Lata, who worked as an assistant in ILBS Hospital Vasant Kunj, was recorded as a witness on behalf of the prosecution. Kusum Lata had seen Shraddha Walker for the last time.

The court also recorded the statement of Shraddha’s brother Shrijay Walkar. In which he said that Shraddha told him that Aftab used to fight and assault her. He also informed about this to his mother.

Shrijay Walker said that he tried to tell his mother and sister that this is not right and Shraddha should leave and come home.

Shraddha often told him that after every incident, Aftab used to apologize for beating her and she forgave him and started living with him. With this his statements were completed.
