Bollywood singer Kanika Kapoor who had attended several gatherings here and tested positive for coronavirus has been booked for negligence and disobedience to the order issued by a public servant.
“An FIR was lodged at the Sarojini Nagar police station under IPC Sections 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant),” an officer told news agencies.
The FIR was lodged on the complaint of the Lucknow chief medical officer. The singer had visited at least three gatherings in the area. The singer shared on social media that she has tested positive for COVID-19, and has been accused of “negligence” in the FIR.
During her social engagements since returning from London, she attended a dinner in Lucknow where there were several senior politicians including Vasundhara Raje and her son Dushyant Singh, who subsequently attended parliament and also visited the President’s House.
The singer was screened at the Lucknow airport on March 14, and showed clear symptoms and was advised home quarantine but she carried on her social engagements regardless.
Speaking to NDTV, Uttar Pradesh Health Minister Jai Pratap Singh – one of the guests at the party attended by Kanika – had admitted to lapses at the airport in the state capital. “There seems to be a lapse on our part. I am going to ask my officers about how Kanika Kapoor went out of the airport undetected,” he said.
Vasundhara and her son Dushyant say they are now self-isolated. Dushyant had attended parliament and also met the President who has since cancelled all his appointments. In Parliament Dushyant sat next to TMC”‘s Derek O’Brien who has now also gone into isolation.
