The Indian delegation at the 41st Session of Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the United Nations Human Rights Council will be headed by Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta.
As per a statement, the session is scheduled to be held at Geneva from November 7 to 18. It will witness peer review of the human rights performance of all countries. India’s national report will be reviewed on November 10, added the statement.
It said senior officials from the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Women and Child Welfare, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Ministry of Minority Affairs, NITI Aayog and the Vice Chancellor of the National Law University, Delhi, will accompany the SG to Geneva, as part of the delegation.
The statement further said that the national report of India, which was submitted on August 5, 2022, outlined the steps taken by the country towards the promotion and protection of human rights, including the implementation of recommendations accepted by the country in the third UPR cycle held in 2017.
Diverse stakeholders, including members from the judiciary, national human rights institution, academia, civil society organisations and the general public held serious discussions on the above subjects, leading to the preparation of this report, it added.
