The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of new Chief Justices (CJs) for the High Courts of Gauhati, Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
The name of the judges who have been recommended to take over as CJs:
Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra(who is presently a judge at the Uttarakhand High Court) as Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court;
1- Justice N Kotiswar Singh (presently a judge at the Gauhati High Court) as Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh;
2- Justice K Vinod Chandran (presently a judge at the Kerala High Court) to the Gauhati High Court, where he will likely become the Chief Justice on retirement of present Chief Justice RM Chaya on January 11, 2023.
3- Justice Mishra has served as the acting Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court. He was elevated from the bar to serve as judge of the Orissa High Court in 2009.
It is important to note that Justice Singh has served twice as the acting Chief Justice of the Gauhati and Manipur High Courts.
In November 2007, he was appointed Advocate General of Manipur, and elevated as an additional judge of the Gauhati High Court in 2011.
Justice Chandran was sworn in as an additional judge of the Kerala High Court on November 8, 2011, and made a permanent judge on June 24, 2013.
