Supreme Court dismisses Covid funds embezzlement plea

When the court dismissed the case, Sharma asked if he could withdraw and make it into a criminal charge.

ILNS: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a petition which had claimed that funds allotted for Covid relief were being embezzled and diverted for other purposes. This same petition had been dismissed by the Allahabad High Court earlier and this was a challenge of that high court order.

Justice Nageswara Rao said: “Who is this gram panchayat member? What is his interest?”

Senior Advocate Harshvir Pratap Sharma said: “Nine persons have died because of this embezzlement.”

Justice Rao: “Why don’t you make representation before authorities? Why rush to court for everything? How can people lose life due to misappropriation of funds?”

When the court dismissed the case, Sharma asked if he could withdraw and make it into a criminal charge.

Justice Rao: “These are matters you should stop at some place. We are not inclined to interfere. Judgement of HC shall not preclude petitioner to avail other remedies open under law.”
