The Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has announced that with the help of eSCR (Electronic Supreme Court Reports)the Supreme Court judgements shall now be provided in various regional languages of India.
The CJI said that the new feature will be launched on the occasion of the Republic Day.
The Supreme Court launched the e-SCR project on 2nd January 2023 as a tribute to the nation in the New Year.
As per the Supreme Court reports this was basically an initiative for providing the digital version of the Supreme Court’s judgments in the manner as they are reported in the official law report.
While announcing the launch the CJI DY Chandrachud, said that we have the eSCR which now has 34000 judgements and an elastic search facility.
He also said that we have now 1091 judgements in regional languages which will be launched tomorrow on the Republic Day.
We have 21 in Odia, 14 in Marathi, 4 in Assamese, 1 in Garo, 17 in Kannada, 1 in Khasi, 29 in Malayalam, 3 in Nepali, 4 in Punjabi, 52 already in Tamil, 28 in Telugu, and 3 in Urdu.
The CJI said that we are on a mission to provide Supreme Court judgements in all scheduled languages.
We have already started. It will be released on Republic Day.
