Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul launches Supreme Court’s Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee website

Supreme Court judge Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul launched the website of the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC) on Wednesday. The launch took place at the waiting lounge of the new Supreme Court Mediation Centre in the additional building complex.

The Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee had been constituted to ensure the regulated growth and evolution of mediation as a dispute resolution mechanism by conducting various mediation training programmes in the country. It also co-ordinates with different Mediation Centres/State Legal Services Authorities/Judicial Academies, collates statistics received from states, maintains accounts and also data of each trainer in the database software. Moreover, the MCPC is also involved in conducting research, coordinating with International Organizations, accrediting mediators and holding of seminars/conferences.

Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee launch at the new Supreme Court Mediation Centre.

The Committee was constituted by the Supreme Court of India while keeping in view the legislative mandate and the spirit of Section 89 of Code of Civil Procedure, to oversee the effective implementation of Mediation and Conciliation in the country. Justice R.C. Lahoti, the then Chief Justice of India, set up the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee on April 9, 2005, under the chairmanship of Justice N. Santosh Hegde.

Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman was the last chairman of the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee before his retirement, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Justice M.R. Shah, Ashok Kumar Jain, Member Secretary, NALSA, are the designated members of the committee with Mezivolu T. Therieh holding the office of Member Secretary.
