Telangana HC directs State Govt to take steps for safe return of people stranded at Telangana-AP border

A bench of the High Court of Telangana comprising of Justice MS Ramachnadra Rao and Justice K Lakshman directed the state government to file a status report on the steps being taken by the State government for safe return of people stranded at the Telangana-Andhra Pradesh border.

The division bench was hearing a petition on a letter addressed to the Chief Justice by two Advocates, SSR Murthy and S Raj Kumar seeking directions to the concerned Ministry to make use of the facility available at private hospitals for persons in need of medical help stranded at the border. The petitioners also sought the courts directions to ensure that such persons are tested and kept under observation amid COVID-19 Pandemic.

The petitioners further informed the court that there were sufficient number of private hospitals which could cater to the need of such persons and the hospitals could be used for testing the persons for COVID-19 and also to quarantine such persons.

The Advocate General for the State of Telangana, BS Prasad informed the bench that around 90,000 people have been accommodated in shelter homes which fall along the Telangana-Andhra Pradesh border. Moreover the State Government was taking steps to ensure that no person gets out of the state.
