A special court in Uttar Pradesh in its judgment on the killing of a 19-year-old Dalit woman at Hathras in 2020,said that there was no medical evidence to prove that she was gang raped.It was also noted by the court that there was no disclosure of the commission of offence in her earlier statements to police.
Special judge Trilok Pal in a detailed 167-page judgment, said that as it was a case had of political nature, there can be a fair possibility that the victim was tutored to change her statement later and claim it being a gang rape attempted by the men.
The court had acquitted three people while convicting one in the case. The accused name Ramu, Lavkush and Ravi were acquitted, however one named Sandeep was convicted for the offence of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and for offences under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The convicted man was sentenced to life imprisonment with a fine of ₹50,000, making it clear that ₹40,000 will be given to the victim’s mother.
As per the information, the victim was allegedly gang-raped in Hathras on September 14, 2020 and there was an attempt to kill her . On September 29, tye victim succumbed to her injuries at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital.
When her mortal remains were taken to her native place, the UP Police and administration allegedly cremated her body forcefully without the family’s consent or their presence, in the dead of the night.
