The Uttarakhand High Court has ordered the demolition of illegal construction done by BJP MLA Pradeep Batra of Roorkee. The Court said the Haridwar Development Authority should take action against the illegal construction in two weeks and submit a report to the Court.
The case was heard on Thursday by the division bench of Chief Justice (Acting) Ravi Malimath and Justice Alok Kumar Verma.
According to the case, Gaurav Kumar Pundir, a resident of Roorkee, had filed a PIL in the High Court, stating that the building is being illegally constructed on Nazul land in Roorkee Civil Lines on behalf of BJP MLA Pradeep Batra and his family members.
The petition said this has been confirmed by the municipal corporation. Sealing orders were also issued by the authority in 2015, but in spite of this, the illegal construction went on unabated.
The respondent said they have taken approval for this. To which, the authority said the compounding application has been rejected. After the hearing, the Court directed the authority to take action against the illegal construction in two weeks and present the report to the Court.
