The Uttarakhand High Court disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed seeking constitution of an expert commission to suggest reformative measures for the preservation and protection of quality of water of holy River Ganges.
The PIL filed by one Prabhu Narayan further seeks direction to the respondents to take appropriate steps for preservation and protection of quality of the Ganga Jal.
Admittedly, the Central Government is seized of the issue of cleaning the river Ganga which is considered as the most sacred river of our country from times immemorial.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Ramesh Chandra Khulbe is of the view that there is no need, at this stage, for us to intervene in the matter since the Central Government is already bestowing its attention and taking steps for cleaning the river Ganga.
Therefore , the Bench disposed of the petition with liberty to the petitioner to put forward his suggestions to National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG )Ministry of Jal Shakti (Department of Water Resources River Development). The suggestions made by the petitioner may be considered, if found useful, by the officers concerned dealing with the project concerning cleaning of the river Ganga.
