The Bombay High Court heard the plea filed by the wife of activist-poet Varavara Rao, an accused in the Bhima Koregaon case. A bench of Justices S.S. Shinde and M.S. Karnik had in the last hearing extended Rao’s stay in Nanavati Hospital till today. Rao’s wife filed the plea seeking the court’s intervention in the alleged infringement of Rao’s fundamental right to health.
An application seeking interim bail on medical grounds will also be heard on Monday. The Court enquired about Rao’s health, to which Senior Advocate Anand Grover informed that his health is improving. Advocate Sandesh Patil, appearing for the National Investigation Agency, informed the court that ASG Anil Singh is busy in another court and seeks passover.
Grover adds that there are hand tremors which still persist and some slight health issues. Court asked Grover if Rao is getting proper treatment. Grover clarified that the condition during vacation was that JJ Hospital was overcrowded and understaffed.

Grover: And the same issue was present in Taloja jail hospital.
The Court agrees but adds that the situation in Mumbai seems to be improving. The Court keeps back the matter at 2.30 pm.
